Modern day Restorative Yoga was invented by world-renowned Yogi, B.K.S. Iyengar.  Restorative Yoga is a form of yoga that seeks to achieve physical, mental and emotional relaxation with the aid of props.  The premise of this gentle class is to restore the parasympathetic nervous system (the autonomic system that is activated during Restorative Yoga and quiets the mind/body/spirit) and to lengthen muscles that have shortened, due to strenuous workouts and stressful life habits. Using the props allows students to maintain balance while both stimulating and relaxing the body.  Restorative Yoga poses may be held for several minutes to achieve the full benefit; some even up to 10 or 15 minutes.  A constant practice can make your body less vulnerable to stress-related illnesses and sports injuries.

To make Restorative Yoga more comfortable and for maximum benefit of the poses, we ask that you bring any of the following to allow for complete release:
*small pillow/bolster(s)
*yoga mat
*water bottle
